MeterIT-Cosmic
Version 1.7 of MeterIT-Cosmic is in line with the COSMIC Standard version 3.0.1. It enables analysts to measure the size of your project requirements, or specifications, according to the standard COSMIC.
The measurement results can be exported to MeterIT-Project as part of a software benchmarking portfolio.
|
Scene: the meeting is discussing the requirements for a new piece of software or the modifications of a previous one. Ideas for the required functions are proposed and progressively devised. You are entering these functions in MeterIT-Cosmic, one by one as they come. Some are well defined, MeterIT-Cosmic measures them. Others are still unclear, MeterIT-Cosmic estimates them. Finally, MeterIT-Cosmic gives you the size of the software your group has been discussing.
With MeterIT-Cosmic, even large software applications can be rapidly sized up and the budget of your programme becomes more rapidly ascertained. Then, later, in a product acceptance test session, you can enter the functions received in MeterIT-Cosmic and quickly make sure whether you have received or not, all the functionality ordered, thus leading to a shorter decision making process.
MeterIT-Cosmic exploits all the recommendations of the COSMIC Standard version 3.0.1. Real-Time software systems as well as traditional MIS data processing software can be measured at any stage of your project life cycle.

MeterIT-Project
MeterIT-Project version 1.5, software benchmarking tool, offers flexible and coherent guidance on how to capture and enter the management parameters of your projects.
MeterIT-Project produces a set of calibration details from your own projects exportable to PredictIT.
|
Scene: As soon as one of your projects has been achieved, its main parameters, once entered in MeterIT-Project, can help you identify in management terms whether it has been successful or failing. This enables you to take the right set of decisions relative to the software development capability of your organisation. Then, when a new project is due to be launched, its estimated parameters, entered in MeterIT-Project, will help you discover at the right time whether it is leading you to failure or success. This dynamic software benchmarking activity offers flexible and coherent guidance on how to capture and enter the management parameters of your projects. These data may be entered as the project time line makes them available. You can obtain a quantified conclusion at the earliest stage. This enables you to take critical decisions at the right time. Also, MeterIT-Project produces a set of calibration details from your own projects. Then, PredictIT uses the calibration thus obtained for a more accurate software estimation of your future projects.

PredictIT
PredictIT version 1.4, enables you to define a project time line-cost strategy for your projects. PredictIT can be calibrated either by the project measurement tool, MeterIT-Project or by your own knowledge of your project development capability.
|
Scene: From the moment you know the size of the software application you have to develop, PredictIT gives you in management terms, an estimate of the project you want to conduct. PredictIT can support you with your chosen software sizing standard, which could range from your local sizing practice to the latest 2nd Generation ISO sizing standard, COSMIC. This size can be obtained either by measurement or by estimation; PredictIT will always give you adequate guidance.
PredictIT understands that consistency is a key practice in managing software developments. PredictIT can be calibrated either by the project measurement tool, MeterIT-Project or by your own knowledge of your development capability. You will be able to set project time/cost objectives as well as to predict your project effort requirements. Where project development constraints exist, PredictIT enables you to assess the feasibility of your project, thus permitting you to take go/no-go decisions that are cost-effective. It is always clear to PredictIT that project uncertainty might be very expensive. So PredictIT lets you chose the level of risk you are ready to assume and supports you in selecting proper project-objectives.

MeterIT-Converter
MeterIT-Converter version 1.1, enables you to convert to COSMIC the sizes of a piece of software measured or estimated by means of one of the first generation standards such as IFPUG, NESMA, and Mk II. It uses conversion algorithms recognised by the COSMIC Group. It also enables you to create and run your own conversion algorithms more directly related to the needs of your organisation.
|
Scene: Like many organisations you have a repository of first generation standard (IFPUG, Mk II FPA) size measurements and your organisation being determined to align the strength of your software capability to customer satisfaction has decided to deploy the COSMIC size measurement standard. Your management team still need to control and direct the software capability toward realistic performance goals. With MeterIT-Converter and a bit of methodological wisdom, there is no need to re-measure your past applications: it is more efficient to convert these sizes to COSMIC sizes. With your five years historical metrics continuum you can now easily project your capability development plan on the next five years with strong realism.
